Trust Me - Lesley Pearse

Read: November 2002
Genre: Fiction
Rating: A++

What a wonderful book this is. I recommend it whenever I can. It is a really moving book and I just couldn't put it down and if you get the opportunity to read it please do.

The book is about 2 sisters whose father is wrongly imprisoned for killing their mother. They are sent to an orphanage convent where they are very badly treated by the nuns there. Eventually they become two of the first children to go on the Orphan Train to Australia where they are put into yet another convent and, once again, treated badly by the nuns. The elder sister is sent as a skivvy to a ranch in the outback and it is basically her story of how she survived the ill treatment on the ranch and how her life turned out.

Murder at Madingley Grange - Caroline Graham

Read: November 2002
Genre : Mystery
Rating: B-

When Simon Hannaford is left temporarily in charge of his aunt's 20-bedroom Gothic pile he knows he must be able to make a profit from it somehow. Murder, he decides, is the only way to do it. For Madingley Grange is the perfect venue for a 1930s mystery weekend and, before long, he and his long-suffering sister have set the stage for money-spinning mayhem.
From the conservatory to the contents of the claret cellar the clues are sprinkled like pot pourri, and the hired retainers Gaunt and Bennet provide the finishing touch. But, when the guests arrive it is obvious that the business of murder is bound to run off course. For neither Derek, who refuses to relinquish his deerstalker, nor Mrs Gibbs, a card-sharping grandmother, nor Gillette, the 30s fiend complete with ukelele, nor any of the other ill-assorted bunch is happy to play the victim. And when a body does appear, it hardly takes a Hercule Poirot to guess it is not a volunteer. The game of detection must begin in earnest.....

Belva Plain's novel, written with extraordinary understanding and warmth, faces up to a subject too long discussed only in Whispers.

Sushi For Beginners - Marian Keyes

Read: November 2002
Genre : Chick Lit
Rating: C-

This is the first book Marian Keyes that I have read and although it was an ok read it definately wasn't a 'must read', in fact if I remember rightly I didn't even get half way through it and just lost interest in it. I will probably try and read others of hers just to see if this was just a one off and maybe her others will be better.
It's the story of three girls Lisa, Ashling and Clodagh and what happens when Lisa is sent to start a new women's magazine in Dublin, Ireland.

READING JOURNAL

This blog is going to be my book journal and will list books I have read and the reviews I am going to give. These may include for some 'spoilers' so it's up to you if you read them. These will be my opinions only. It will probably take me a while to input them all but bear with me.
